Lumerical is a leading developer of photonic simulation software – software which enables research and development professionals to predict how light behaves within complex structures, circuits, and systems.  Photonics unlocks many possibilities for the world’s most innovative companies who increasingly rely on virtual prototyping to explore new product concepts, optimize designs without creating physical prototypes, and deliver on their ambitious product development goals. 

Lumerical is seeking a Quality Assurance Engineer to join the Product Development team and contribute to our industry-leading photonic design software. As a Quality Assurance Engineer, you will interact closely with the R&D team and Applications Engineers to create, maintain and improve acceptance tests, to ensure that software builds are continuously and expediently tested and that defects are reported and monitored.  You are a self-starter, able to operate both independently and as part of a tightly-knit team on a variety of projects within a fast-paced and dynamic environment. You will have a desire to improve the way in which your responsibilities are met so as to deliver best-in-class software products to the customer by adopting innovative approaches. 

Responsibilities 

  • Maintain a basic understanding of how to operate Lumerical’s software products;
  • Create and maintain accurate and reliable acceptance tests;
  • Assess and improve test coverage;
  • Operate and support administration of Continuous Integration systems;
  • Monitor automated testing and ensure software builds are fully tested in a timely manner;
  • Investigate test failures and escalate to appropriate team members;
  • Perform manual software testing on release candidate software builds;
  • Support improvements to QA process and procedures; and
  • Collaborate with developer operations team to maintain and improve QA system infrastructure. 

Minimum Qualifications 

The successful applicant will possess all or most of the following qualifications and experience: 

  •  A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics, Physics or Electrical Engineering;
  • Basic understanding of photonic science, applications and technologies;
  • Prior experience with software quality assurance;
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python or a similar scripting language;
  • Excellent problem solving and analytic ability; and
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration systems such as Bamboo, Jenkins, or similar;
  • Experience using defect tracking software such as Jira, Bugzilla or similar;
  • Understanding of revision control using tools such as Git or CVS;
  • Experience using Lumerical’s products or other commercial engineering software; and
  • Familiarity with Linux OS and command line scripting.
