Lumerical is a leading developer of photonic simulation software – software which enables research and development professionals to predict how light behaves within complex structures, circuits, and systems.  Photonics unlocks many possibilities for the world’s most innovative companies who increasingly rely on virtual prototyping to explore new product concepts and optimize designs. Our customers are developing the technology of tomorrow – things like LiDAR systems for autonomous cars, virtual reality headsets, cellphone cameras, communications equipment for data centers and new platforms for quantum computing. 

Lumerical is seeking a Development Operations Engineer Co-op student to join the Product Development team and contribute to our industry-leading photonic design software. As a Development Operations Engineer, you will support the product development squads to meet their goals for quality, performance and functions by ensuring that they have the technology tools required to design, develop and test Lumerical products. You will also support the systems that operate in the production environment and ensure high uptime and minimize the impacts of maintenance and outages. 

Responsibilities 

  • Collaborate with software engineers in development, test, as well as CI infrastructure teams with the aim of improving the team’s CI and CD services;
  •  Partner with development team by providing infrastructure assistance and guidance from the early phases of product development;
  • Compile and build libraries specified by development team; 
  • Build and maintain revisions of VM’s containing full software development stack;
  • Administrate and maintain server-based development tools (e.g. JIRA, Bamboo, Bitbucket, etc.); and
  • Administrate and maintain production servers for production operations. 

Minimum Qualifications  

  • Enrollment in a diploma or degree program in computing science or computer engineering;
  • Experience with Bash, PowerShell;
  • Experience in the setup, configuration, maintenance, and upgrading of one or more server operating system families (Linux, Windows, MacOS);
  • Proficiency with server prototyping and virtualization tools; 
  • Proficiency with version control tools (e.g. git);
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, Ruby, etc.);  
  • Excellent problem solving and analytic ability; and
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. 

 Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with provisioning and configuration management tool(s) – (e.g. Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Ansible); 
  • Experience with networking protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, SSL, etc.); 
  • Build automation and continuous integration tools (e.g. VSTS, TeamCity, Bamboo, Jenkins, Gradle); and
  • Experience with popular cloud services in AWS (e.g. EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront).
