Lumerical is a leading developer of photonic simulation software – software which enables research and development professionals to predict how light behaves within complex structures, circuits, and systems.  Photonics unlocks many possibilities for the world’s most innovative companies who increasingly rely on virtual prototyping to explore new product concepts and optimize designs. Our customers are developing the technology of tomorrow – things like LiDAR systems for autonomous cars, virtual reality headsets, cellphone cameras, communications equipment for data centers and new platforms for quantum computing.  

As a Development Operations Engineer, you will join the Engineering team and contribute to our industry-leading photonic design software.  You will support the  development squads to meet their goals for quality, performance and function by ensuring they have the technology tools  required to design, develop and test Lumerical products. You will also support the systems that operate in the production environment and ensure high uptime and minimize the impacts of maintenance and outages.

Responsibilities 

  • Daily operational support and maintenance of all Infrastructure and Operations components and services;
  • Provisioning of physical and virtual servers, including installation and configuration of operating systems;
  • Monitor the performance and provide reporting on production systems;
  • Database administration and report generation on production systems;
  • Partner with development teams by providing infrastructure assistance and guidance from the early phases of product development;
  • Administrate and maintain server-based development tools (e.g. JIRA, Bamboo, Bitbucket, etc.); and
  • Administrate and maintain production servers for production operations.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Diploma or degree in information technology program;
  • Experience with bash, PowerShell;
  • Experience in the setup, configuration, maintenance, and upgrading of one or more server operating system families (Linux, Windows, MacOS);
  • Proficiency with server prototyping and virtualization tools;
  • Proficiency with version control tools (e.g. git);
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, Ruby, etc.)
  • Excellent problem solving and analytic ability; and
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with VMWare vSphere and ESXi;
  • Experience with provisioning and configuration management tool(s) – (e.g. Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Ansible);Experience with networking protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, SSL, etc.);
  • Build automation and continuous integration tools (e.g. VSTS, TeamCity, Bamboo, Jenkins, Gradle); and
  • Experience with popular cloud services in AWS (e.g. EC2, RDS, S3, CloudFront).
