Lumerical is a leading developer of photonic simulation software – software which enables research and development professionals to predict how light behaves within complex structures, circuits, and systems.  Photonics unlocks many possibilities for the world’s most innovative companies who increasingly rely on virtual prototyping to explore new product concepts and optimize designs. Our customers are developing the technology of tomorrow – things like LiDAR systems for autonomous cars, virtual reality headsets, cellphone cameras, communications equipment for data centers and new platforms for quantum computing. 

Lumerical is seeking a QA Automation Engineer to join the Product Development team and contribute to our industry-leading photonic design software. As a QA Automation Engineer, you will interact closely with the R&D and DevOps teams  to create, maintain and improve acceptance tests, to ensure that software builds are continuously and expediently tested and that defects are reported and monitored.  

Responsibilities 

The successful candidate works both independently and within a highly-integrated team to:

  • Operate and support administration of Continuous Integration systems;
  • Monitor automated testing and ensure software builds are fully tested in a timely manner;
  • Report all defects discovered using defined defect reporting processes:
  • Investigate test failures and escalate to appropriate team members;
  • Maintain existing automated testing frameworks and develop new ones, and
  • Perform manual software testing on release candidate software builds.

Minimum Qualifications 

The successful applicant will possess all or most of the following qualifications and experience: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject:
  • Prior experience in software quality assurance or software development roles;
  • Strong programming knowledge, preferable in Python and C++;
  • Experience testing desktop applications and APIs:
  • Excellent problem solving and analytic ability; and
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with Continuous Integration systems such as Bamboo, Jenkins, or similar;
  • Experience with DevOps process and tools;
  • Experience using defect tracking software such as Jira, Bugzilla or similar;
  • Basic understanding of photonic science, applications and technologies;
  • Experience using Lumerical’s products or other commercial engineering software; and
  • Experience with MATLAB, Octave, R, or other scientific computing software.
